CFE electrical infrastructure investment in Guanajuato

The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and the government of Guanajuato have initiated a coordination plan to improve electrical infrastructure and service quality across the state. To address urban growth and service continuity, the CFE announced an investment of approximately 2.167 billion pesos for the 2026–2030 period. This funding is primarily intended for the expansion and commissioning of substations, as well as circuit construction and recalibration.

Local officials have highlighted specific regional needs, such as in Celaya, where efforts will focus on replacing aging wiring and transformers to reduce voltage fluctuations. Additionally, the mayor of San Francisco del Rincón has called for more preventive and corrective maintenance to prevent blackouts caused by weather, noting that repairs are sometimes delayed by a lack of supplies. CFE Director General Emilia Esther Calleja Alor has committed to following up on these municipal requests, focusing on the replacement of deteriorated equipment.

In August 2026, Guanajuato Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo intensified these demands during a meeting with CFE head Emilia Calleja and various mayors. The Governor called for urgent infrastructure investment to prevent frequent outages, noting that some municipalities, particularly in the northeast, have faced service interruptions lasting several days. She highlighted that poor infrastructure, such as damaged utility poles, has caused secondary issues like damage to community well pumps. Alongside requests for stabilization, the state government proposed creating permits to promote clean energy projects, including solar and wind power.
