Chaco Biennial fuels tourism surge

Overview

In late July 2026 the Chaco provincial government launched the Bienal Internacional de Esculturas, pairing a three‑point promotional operation – a tourist information desk, a promotion booth and a government space with talks and digital trivia – with auxiliary shows such as a rescued‑reptile exhibit and a rotating international sculpture exhibition. Organisers projected hotel and restaurant occupancy near 90 % and highlighted the event’s multiplier effect for local entrepreneurs.

The Bienal attracted more than 95,000 visitors by its seventh day. Governor Leandro Zdero toured the grounds, praising the fair as a cultural‑tourism asset. Provincial deputy Katia Blanc highlighted the Bienal as a free family option that supports artisans and SMEs, while noting logistical concerns about public transport in Gran Resistencia.

By early August officials reported that the Bienal del Chaco, together with the Bienal del Impenetrable in Castelli, drew over 1.7 million visitors. Fifteen sculptures in Castelli were declared cultural heritage, and artists from Argentina, Belarus, Bulgaria, Chile, Spain, Italy, Poland, Turkey, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and others participated, underscoring the event’s role as a major driver of economic, tourism and cultural development in the province.
