Chelsea defensive transfers from Atalanta

Overview

Chelsea has reached an agreement with Atalanta to sign 18-year-old Italian international defender Honest Ahanor in a deal valued between approximately £40 million and £48 million.

Due to Premier League regulations preventing a club from loaning more than one player to the same domestic opponent in a single season, a complex transfer structure has been implemented. Because Chelsea has already loaned Axel Disasi to Crystal Palace, Ahanor will not join Chelsea immediately. Instead, he will move directly from Atalanta to Crystal Palace on a season-long loan for the 2026-27 campaign. Chelsea holds a binding agreement to officially acquire the versatile defender, who can play as a left-back, centre-back, or midfielder, in the summer of 2027.

The move provides Crystal Palace with defensive cover following injuries to Chadi Riad. This acquisition follows the mid-August signing of 21-year-old Marco Palestra, also from the Serie A club.
