Chicago Cubs defensive awards recognition

Overview

During the 2026 MLB season, the Chicago Cubs received significant recognition for their defensive performance. Sports Info Solutions named the Cubs the Team of the Year for the Fielding Bible Awards, noting they finished with 115 Defensive Runs Saved. This total provided a significant margin over the second-place Tampa Bay Rays, who recorded 87. Pete Crow-Armstrong was named the Fielding Bible Player of the Year on defense.

Major League Baseball later announced the 2026 Rawlings Gold Glove Award winners. In the National League, Pete Crow-Armstrong was honored as a center fielder for his defensive excellence, recording 26 outs above average, which was the highest among MLB center fielders. Other Cubs players, including Dansby Swanson, Ian Happ, Seiya Suzuki, and Nico Hoerner, had previously been named as finalists for the award.

In the final announcement of Gold Glove winners, Alex Bregman was honored as the National League third baseman. While the 2026 season concluded without postseason success due to pitching instability and inconsistent hitting, the team led the league in runs scored. The organization is expected to use its elite defensive foundation as a primary building block for roster reconstruction in 2027.
