Chihuahua textbook distribution and education updates
Overview
In August 2026, Chihuahua reported progress in both student graduation rates and the distribution of textbooks for the 2026–2027 school year.
Initial reports indicated that 1,470 students completed basic education through extra-school centers. At that time, the state had received 83% of its allocated textbooks, with significant shortages noted in pre-school and primary levels. While secondary and telesecundaria levels were fully supplied, approximately 762,684 books remained undelivered.
By mid-August, the Secretary of Education and Sports, Francisco Hugo Gutiérrez Dávila, announced that the state had reached a 93.73 percent completion rate, having received 4,209,016 of the 4,490,468 assigned textbooks. Although the shortage of 281,452 books continues to primarily affect preschool and primary education, the National Commission of Free Textbooks (Conaliteg) is continuing shipments to support the 650,000 students in the upcoming cycle.
The Chihuahua Secretariat of Education and Sport (SEyD), via the State Educational Services of Chihuahua (SEECH), has launched the distribution of these more than 4.4 million books to 655,619 students across 5,301 schools. To manage the high volume of students, the distribution process is prioritizing primary education throughout August.
Major distribution hubs include Ciudad Juárez, which is set to receive over 1.7 million books, and the municipality of Chihuahua, receiving over 1.2 million. Other regional warehouses include Bocoyna, Camargo, Cuauhtémoc, Delicias, Guadalupe y Calvo, Guachochi, Madera, Nuevo Casas Grandes, Ojinaga, and Parral. The new school cycle is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 31.
In addition to textbook distribution, the DIF Municipal has completed its ‘Reto Útil’ campaign. This initiative collected over 1,500 school kits, valued at approximately 3,000 pesos each, to support preschool and primary school children in rural areas and high-need situations. Furthermore, state-sponsored school supply packages have been delivered to primary schools in Nuevo Casas Grandes to assist families with educational costs.
