Senator Esteban Velásquez, the author of the royalty legislation, stated that these resources are starting to remain directly in the territories where mining occurs. Within the region, nine municipalities received a combined 20.3 billion pesos through the Mining Communes Fund and the Territorial Equity Fund, while the Regional Government received approximately 17.4 billion pesos via the FRPD. Calama was identified as the municipality receiving the highest amount, totaling over 7.2 billion pesos. By September 2026, Chile completed its fourth transfer of the Mining Royalty to municipalities, distributing $56,633 million across 309 communes. This distribution included $13,729 million for 45 communes via the Mining Communities Fund and $42,904 million for 302 communes via the Territorial Equity Fund. Nationally, total distributions via the Mining Royalty for the year reached $226,235 million. In the Maule Region, 28 communes received more than $3,860 million, contributing to a regional total of $15,454 million. In the Tarapacá Region, seven communes received 5,487 million pesos from the mining royalty through the Mining Communes Fund and the Territorial Equity Fund. These funds are intended for local initiatives in security, infrastructure, health, education, and public spaces.
