Ciudad Juárez binational cooperation initiatives

In late August 2026, Ciudad Juárez engaged in various binational initiatives focused on regional cooperation and cross-border connection.

On the infrastructure and economic front, leaders from Ciudad Juárez attended the NADBank Summit in San Antonio, Texas. During the summit, titled ‘Strengthening binational cooperation to cement the infrastructure of tomorrow,’ officials discussed the need for close collaboration between Mexican and U.S. institutions. Discussions centered on managing shared economic, social, and urban dynamics with the El Paso region, specifically targeting water management, environmental protection, mobility, and strategic infrastructure.

Specifically, Mayor Cruz Pérez Cuéllar and acting mayor Héctor Ortiz Orpinel participated in the summit to address shared challenges regarding urban growth and sustainability. This occurred alongside efforts by other Mexican officials, such as Nuevo León Governor Samuel Alejandro García Sepúlveda, who met with Texas business leaders and the Texas Office of Economic Development and Tourism to promote regional competitiveness through technology and innovation.

Simultaneously, the city hosted the sixth edition of the Binational Meeting of Museums and Cultural Centers. Under the theme ‘Uniendo Fronteras’ (Uniting Borders), the event brought together artists, researchers, and cultural managers to foster exchange. The program addressed social divisions caused by political borders and migration, proposing that museums serve as spaces for dialogue and social repair.
