Cocaine seizure on French motorway
Overview
French customs officers intercepted a shipment of 231.3 kg of cocaine on the A6 motorway near the Corgoloin rest area in Côte-d'Or. The narcotics, with an estimated resale value of approximately 6.8 million euros, were discovered hidden within the ventilation system of a heavy goods vehicle registered in the Netherlands.
Investigators noted that while the truck's trailer was transporting Spanish sparkling wine at an unusually low cost, the driver's nervous behavior prompted a cabin inspection. The driver, an independent trucker with dual Dutch and Syrian nationality, admitted to knowing the drugs were in the vehicle, citing personal debts as a motive.
The driver has been placed in provisional detention, and a court appearance is scheduled for October 14. Authorities are investigating whether the individual acted alone or as part of a larger criminal organization.
