Coimbra region Metrobus implementation

Overview

The Coimbra region is undergoing significant changes to its public transport infrastructure through the implementation of the Mondego Mobility System (SMM) Metrobus.

In the broader Coimbra Metropolitan Region, new schedules implemented as of September 4 facilitate connections between Góis, Coimbra, and Serpins, including the resumption of the Metrobus service between Lousã and Serpins. In Figueira da Foz, Mayor Pedro Santana Lopes has prioritized a Metrobus connection to Coimbra over railway electrification, noting the project is estimated to cost only 20% of the railway investment and can be executed much faster. Additionally, the municipality is working to acquire former CP railway workshop buildings to create an intermodal transport hub combining rail, road, and commercial spaces.
