Colombia SENA funding expansion and regional rollout
Overview
In July 2026, Colombia’s National Learning Service (SENA) announced a historic budget increase of roughly 110% for the 2027 fiscal year, raising its allocation to 8.51 billion pesos. The boost is aimed at expanding enrollment capacity, modernising training facilities, strengthening virtual learning platforms, and aligning programmes with emerging sectors such as Industry 4.0, artificial intelligence, automation and renewable energy.
Following the budget announcement, SENA began deploying the new resources to regional initiatives. By mid-July, the agency disclosed a targeted investment of more than 4.1 million pesos for an entrepreneurship programme in the Nariño department. The funding supports 33 new business plans, prioritises agro-industrial, commercial and service projects, and is expected to create 118 direct jobs, especially for vulnerable and reintegrating populations.
By August 2026, the agency expanded its focus on professional training and employment services. In the Santander region, SENA reported its capacity to meet the demands of companies and entrepreneurs, supported by a national budget exceeding 8 trillion pesos. The institution continues to provide technical training, seed capital, and specialized tools, such as a virtual interactive vocational orientation test on the Sofía Plus platform to help individuals align their interests with professional training. Additionally, SENA has served as a collection center for donations to assist victims of recent earthquakes in Colombia.
