Colombian coffee sector elections 2026
Overview
The National Federation of Coffee Growers (FNC) has announced the 2026 coffee elections, scheduled for September. The process includes electronic voting from September 1 to 3, followed by in-person voting on September 5 and 6, with monitoring provided by over 400 observers from the Electoral Observation Mission (MOE).
Nationwide, approximately 350,000 people are eligible to vote, a 3.91% increase from 2022. From a pool of more than 18,000 candidates, the election will select leaders to form 389 Municipal Committees and 15 Departmental Committees. The process aims to strengthen institutional inclusivity, specifically targeting increased participation from women and youth across 23 coffee-producing departments.
Regional preparations are underway, including the Llanos region, where 2,302 producers are eligible to vote across the municipalities of Florencia (Caquetá), Tamara (Casanare), and Lejanías (Meta). In the Nariño department, candidates such as the slate led by Ruby Pantoja are focusing on platforms to increase family incomes, manage fertilizer resources, and improve tertiary roads through specialized paving solutions to address local territorial needs.
