Comurg urban landscaping initiatives in Goiânia
Overview
The Companhia de Urbanização de Goiânia (Comurg) has implemented several initiatives to enhance urban landscaping and sustainability in Goiânia.
Initially, the company focused on repurposing fallen trees from public areas into urban furniture. Through its carpentry workshop, Comurg processes logs and branches to produce benches, having installed or renovated 2,653 benches across the city between January 2025 and April 2026.
Building on these efforts, Comurg is expanding its landscaping scope through the ‘Projeto Florescer’. The company is initiating a procurement process to acquire up to 2 million ornamental flower seedlings to increase the number of flower bed locations from fewer than 60 to 150 sites by 2027. To ensure higher survival rates and cost efficiency, the project requires seedlings to be certified by the National Registry of Seeds and Seedlings (Renasem).
As of October 2026, the ‘Projeto Florescer’ has implemented over 123,000 ornamental flower seedlings across more than 35 locations. Key areas receiving plantings include Praça Eurico Viana in Setor Oeste, Praça Wilson Sales in Setor Nova Suíça, Avenida Vera Cruz in Jardim Guanabara, the T-9 roundabout, and sections of Avenida Anhanguera. The initiative, which includes soil preparation, organic fertilization, and ongoing maintenance such as irrigation and pruning, aims to reinforce the city’s identity as a ‘garden city’ and the ‘Green Capital of Brazil’. While previous targets aimed for 150 sites, the project now intends to expand to 300 locations by 2027.
