Cultural and infrastructure developments in Changhua County

Overview

Changhua County is conducting various cultural, religious, and infrastructure initiatives. In late August, the county scheduled the Indigenous Peoples’ Day and Cultural Festival to celebrate the official recognition of the Siraya people as Taiwan’s 17th indigenous group. Concurrently, the local government recognized two masters of intangible cultural heritage for their expertise in architectural painting and large-scale carpentry.

By mid-September, focus shifted to upcoming major events, including the 2026 Trendy Lukang Music Festival scheduled for October 16–18, which features 72 artists from Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea. Infrastructure improvements near Wen Kai Elementary School in Lukang were also completed, widening sidewalks and creating drop-off zones to improve pedestrian safety for students and tourists in the historic Lukang Old Street area.

In October, the 2026 Changhua Mazu Blessing Culture Festival commenced at the Fangyuan Putian Temple. The festival features a large-scale joint procession of 13 Mazu temples, including Mazu palanquins and performance troupes moving through the streets. Cultural highlights include performances by the Ming Hwa Yuan Opera Troupe and the Taiwan Acrobatics Group. The event also incorporates interactive activities such as industry markets and stamp collecting, alongside a joint blessing ceremony to determine the host temples for the years 2027 through 2033.
