Cultural exhibitions in Turkey

Overview

Cultural exhibitions are being organized in Turkey, including Hera Büyüktaşcıyan’s ‘Ghost Quartet’ at Arter. Curated by Nilüfer Şaşmazer, the exhibition explores themes of loss, memory, and invisibility through four sections—Nekropol, Avlu, Cadde, and Bakış—drawing parallels to mythological underworld rivers.

In İzmir, the ‘ROMANTİKA / Bir Ömrün Seyrüseferi’ exhibition, dedicated to the life of poet Nâzım Hikmet, has officially opened at the Kültürpark Atlas Pavilion as part of the 95th İzmir International Fair. Produced by Folkart Gallery in collaboration with the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, the display is described as the most comprehensive of its kind in Turkey.

Curated by M. Melih Güneş and designed by Ömer Durmaz, the exhibition spans 2,125 square meters across 15 halls. It integrates literature with painting, sculpture, photography, and film to explore Hikmet’s life, including his travels through Anatolia and Moscow, his imprisonment, and his exile. The exhibition features hundreds of items—including manuscripts, rare books, personal belongings, and audiovisual recordings—sourced from approximately 25 domestic and international entities, such as the Russian State Literary and Art Archive and the Ara Güler Archive. The title ‘Romantika’ is taken from the name Hikmet chose for his 1962 autobiographical novel, ‘Yaşamak Güzel Şey Be Kardeşim’. The display specifically highlights Hikmet’s historical connections to İzmir, particularly his time there in 1925.
