Cultural festivals in central Mexico

Overview

Various cultural festivals are scheduled across the Mexican states of Michoacán and Estado de México in late 2026. In Michoacán, Morelia is hosting the Mezcaliza festival on September 5 and 6, featuring over 80 exhibitors of artisanal mezcal and gastronomy. Additionally, the fourth edition of the Ancient Music Festival is set for September 18 through October 10, centered on the theme “Ancient music for modern ears” with performances of Baroque and 18th-century New Spanish repertoire.

In Metepec, the municipality is preparing for the 36th edition of the Quimera 2026 International Art and Culture Festival, scheduled for October 13 to 18. The event will feature 314 activities across 14 venues, including Plaza Juárez, Teatro Quimera, and Museo del Barro. To ensure the safety of an expected 400,000 attendees, the municipal government is implementing a specialized security operation involving 311 security elements, 104 units, and coordination with the National Guard and the State of Mexico Security Secretariat.

In Toluca, the administration has granted permits for the 2026 Alfeñique Fair and Cultural Festival. To maintain a peaceful environment for families, authorities have issued strict guidelines prohibiting weapons, alcohol, glass, large umbrellas, and drones during headline concerts.

Separately, the Toluca City Council has approved updates to the Unitary Land and Construction Value Tables for the 2027 fiscal year, with Mayor Ricardo Moreno noting an average adjustment of 4.07% in homogeneous areas. The council also authorized tax discounts of 50% to 70% between October and December 2026 to support the Special Program for the Regularization and Titling of Housing through INSUS.
