Danilovgrad shooting range murders

Overview

On August 31, 2026, a triple murder occurred at the ‘Češka zbrojevka’ shooting range in Danilovgrad, Montenegro. The victims, identified as instructors Petar Globarević (24), Nemanja Kapor (20), and master instructor Momir Radonjić (67), were shot while at work.

Authorities identified the suspect as 30-year-old Russian citizen Mihail Nikolaevič Shabunin. Investigations revealed that Shabunin had built trust with the staff by visiting the range in the days leading up to the attack. On the day of the massacre, he engaged in target practice before entering an office to carry out the killings. Investigators noted that Shabunin displayed high proficiency with firearms, appearing to fire two CZ pistols simultaneously during the attack.

Following the shootings, Shabunin stole a black Seat Cordoba (PG AC 472) from one of the victims. He abandoned the vehicle near Vranjske Njive and continued his escape by taxi toward Herceg Novi. During his flight, he reportedly left his passport and phone behind when he could not pay a taxi fare. After an intensive manhunt involving special police units and a Montenegrin military helicopter, Shabunin was located in a forest near the Topla settlement in Herceg Novi. Upon being surrounded by police, he opened fire on officers before committing suicide by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

As of September 10, 2026, the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica continues its investigation. While no separate criminal case has been opened regarding the operation of the shooting range itself, the Prosecutor's Office has issued verbal orders to the Police Administration to conduct detailed checks to identify any potential security failures or relevant facts.

International partners have been requested to provide data regarding Shabunin’s background and contacts to determine if he has links to military operations in Ukraine or received specialized combat training.
