Death of influencer following cosmetic procedure in Thailand

British-Nigerian influencer and businessman Igho ‘Tiny’ Ubiribo died in Bangkok, Thailand, following a cosmetic procedure on March 5, 2026. An investigation by the Inner West London Coroner’s Court determined that Ubiribo died from a pulmonary embolism caused by the aesthetic intervention, specifically after receiving approximately 40 milliliters of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine injections intended for penile enlargement.

Management noted that while a doctor had advised dividing the treatment into two sessions, Ubiribo requested the full amount be administered in a single session. The clinic maintains that all consent forms were signed and aftercare instructions were provided.

In response to the death, the Thai Ministry of Public Health has expanded its scrutiny beyond the specific clinic. Officials are now inspecting clinics across Bangkok to verify medical licenses and ensure adherence to safety protocols. This incident has brought increased attention to Thailand’s aesthetic medicine market, which includes approximately 7,000 clinics nationwide. The case highlights ongoing concerns regarding the oversight of elective cosmetic procedures and the complexities of medical tourism, where patients may lack access to their home healthcare networks during post-operative recovery.
