Delhi road inspection dispute involving Parvesh Verma

Overview

The political dispute in Delhi regarding a road inspection in Tilak Nagar has expanded to include formal corruption allegations. Following the incident where PWD Minister Parvesh Verma allegedly slapped Sahib Singh, an associate of AAP MLA Jarnail Singh, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) filed a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) against Verma, alleging both physical assault and corruption.

AAP Delhi unit President Saurabh Bharadwaj has specifically raised concerns regarding a Rs 23-crore road repair project on the Outer Ring Road, claiming the construction failed to meet required specifications. The party has demanded an independent audit by an agency such as the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) and stated they will approach the courts if police fail to register an FIR against Verma.

Minister Verma has intensified his defense by issuing a video accusing Arvind Kejriwal of allowing ‘goons’ to operate in Delhi for extortion purposes. Verma alleged that the individual involved in the Tilak Nagar incident has a prior criminal record and claimed that three months ago, this individual and the nephew of MLA Jarnail Singh were arrested for allegedly beating a Municipal Corporation of Delhi employee during an extortion attempt. He further asserted the individual is not a Delhi resident and uses a Dubai-based mobile number.

Legal actions continue to escalate on both sides. While the ACB complaint targets Verma, police have registered an FIR against AAP leaders Saurabh Bharadwaj and Jarnail Singh, along with several workers, for allegedly assaulting a head constable and obstructing official duties during protests.
