Dementia support initiatives in Belgium and the Netherlands

Local communities in Belgium and the Netherlands continue to expand initiatives for individuals living with dementia and their caregivers. This collaboration between Zorgkantoor DSW, Argos Zorggroep, KLiK Vrijwilligers, and local municipalities focuses on identifying the remaining talents of people with dementia, allowing them to volunteer at businesses or sports clubs to maintain self-esteem.

Further expansion of support is seen through Alzheimer Cafés. In Dronten, the Odensehuis and Alzheimer Café Dronten have intensified their collaboration to create a ‘low-threshold meeting place’ to address the expected rise in dementia cases. Additionally, in the Maasgouw region, an Alzheimer Café session in Beegden, led by nursing specialist Yvonne van Zutphen, provides practical guidance for caregivers managing behavioral changes associated with cognitive decline.
