This warning follows reports of approximately 1.69 million suspected dengue cases across the Americas. In Colombia, authorities in the Atlántico department and Barranquilla launched the ‘Departmental Week Against Dengue’ to combat mosquito proliferation caused by a transition to a rainy season, which has created stagnant water breeding grounds for the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

Vaccination efforts continue to face logistical and uptake challenges. In Peru, the Ministry of Health updated technical regulations to expand access to the tetravalent vaccine through EsSalud facilities and school brigades. However, progress remains slow, with only 2.7% of the target population completing the two-dose regimen, even as confirmed or probable cases reached 78,912 with 72 deaths by late October. This surge in Peru more than doubles the total recorded in 2025. Similar challenges were noted in Brazil, where low vaccine uptake among children and adolescents was attributed to concerns regarding potential side effects.
