Development and agricultural initiatives in Beni Suef

Local authorities in Beni Suef, Egypt, have focused on infrastructure improvements and rural economic development. Initial administrative efforts led by Governor Major General Abdullah Abdel Aziz prioritized addressing water accumulation in villages, completing sewage projects, and regulating markets to ensure the availability of essential goods at stable prices.

Following these efforts, the focus expanded to rural revitalization through the ‘Productive Village’ initiative. In collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and funded with support from Italy’s Siam Pari Institute, the program aims to transform villages into integrated production units. In September 2026, Minister of Agriculture Alaa Farouk and Governor Abdel Aziz inspected the initiative in Ifou village. The project, implemented by the Agricultural Research Center, covers approximately 400 acres involving 700 holders and includes training in dairy processing, veterinary services, and the distribution of improved cattle contracts and beehives to diversify income.

Simultaneously, the Beni Suef Directorate of Agriculture has intensified regulatory and field activities to support the sector and prepare for the winter season. Under the supervision of Undersecretary Mohamed Amin, authorities have conducted inspections of feed shops and factories to ensure price controls and compliance. Efforts to protect agricultural land included the removal of 14 cases of illegal encroachments. Additionally, the directorate is managing the Farmer’s Card system, with over 266,000 applications registered, and providing extension services such as the ‘Better Cotton’ initiative and sugar beet productivity seminars.
