Dolly Parton estate legal dispute
Overview
Following the death of country music legend Dolly Parton on August 25, her estate—valued at approximately 450 million euros—has become the subject of legal conflict. In September, the company managing her business interests, She’s Alive, LLC, led by longtime manager Danny Nozell, filed for a temporary restraining order against Parton’s nephew and former head of security, Bryan Seaver.
The estate alleges that following his termination on September 15, Seaver engaged in an “obscene, deliberate and escalating campaign of threats” intended to extort money. Court documents include text messages in which Seaver allegedly described himself as a “killer” and an “international arms dealer and mercenary,” while threatening to “destroy the entire brand.” A Tennessee judge granted a temporary restraining order on September 22, prohibiting Seaver and his firm, Squadron Augmented Protection Services (SAPS), from contacting or approaching estate employees, attorneys, and business partners.
During an October 7 court proceeding, She’s Alive, LLC filed new documents alleging that Seaver is attempting to evade the lawsuit. The estate claims Seaver has used barbed wire and “no trespassing” signs at his residence to prevent process servers from delivering legal documents.
Seaver has denied all allegations, characterizing the legal action as a “spurious” publicity stunt and claiming he was fired due to “contrived threats.” He has stated that the existing restraining order prevents him from speaking publicly regarding the legal matter. Amidst the litigation, Parton’s sister, Freida Parton, issued a statement asserting there is no family feud and that the family continues to love Seaver.
