Dylan Dog 40th anniversary celebrations
Overview
The Italian horror comic series Dylan Dog is marking its 40th anniversary. Created by Tiziano Sclavi and published by Sergio Bonelli Editore, the series debuted in September 1986 with ‘L’alba dei morti viventi’.
Anniversary celebrations include public meetings and analytical explorations of the character’s history, such as an event in Ferrara featuring illustrator Nicola Mari and academic Alberto Sebastiani. To commemorate the milestone, the character is set to make a theatrical debut with the ‘Dylan Dog Horror Show’. Directed by Valter Malosti, this immersive production is scheduled to begin at Rome’s Teatro Eliseo on October 28, 2026, combining theater, music, and dance to represent the comic’s universe. The production features Gabriele Graham Gasco in the role of Dylan Dog and explores the character's past through a new case involving a mysterious client named Veronika, which may involve recurring characters such as Xabaras, Groucho, and Inspector Bloch.
Further festivities include the ‘Dylan Dog Horror Night’, an event spanning 80 locations across Italy, including bookstores and comic shops. A special celebratory volume titled ‘Prima che sia l’alba’, featuring an untold story by Barbara Baraldi and illustrated by Davide Furnò, has been released. Additionally, a special edition of the original issue, ‘Dylan Dog. L’alba dei morti viventi’, written by Tiziano Sclavi and illustrated by Angelo Stano, is scheduled for release in bookstores and comic shops starting November 3, featuring the original screenplay and various cover art options.
