Economic, transport, and social development in Nuevo Laredo
Overview
In Nuevo Laredo, local government and private sector initiatives continue to focus on economic, logistical, and social development. The municipal government supports entrepreneurs through the ‘Hecho en Nuevo Laredo’ plan, a partnership with the National Chamber of Commerce (CANACO) providing business training to strengthen the local economy.
To support the city’s role as a logistics platform, municipal leadership has emphasized the transport sector, including the construction of a new vehicle bridge on the MEX 2 highway. Mayor Carmen Lilia Canturosas Villarreal has described freight transport as a “fundamental pillar” of the local economy.
Infrastructure improvements have progressed with the completion of road resurfacing projects in the Sector Centro, San Rafael, and Madero neighborhoods. Social and educational initiatives have also expanded through collaborations between the Instituto Tamaulipeco para la Educación de los Adultos (ITEA) and the Local Union of Maquiladora Industry Workers.
Building on these economic efforts, the Secretariat of Economic Development and the ‘Hecho en Nuevo Laredo’ program are organizing a business networking event titled ‘Cadena de Suministros’. Scheduled for October 13 at the Infoteca Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, this edition focuses on the hotel, restaurant, cafeteria, and retail sectors. The event will utilize negotiation tables to connect local suppliers with buyers, aiming to facilitate commercial agreements and expand client portfolios within the city’s productive sectors.
