Ecuadorian employment and labor market initiatives

Ecuadorian employment initiatives have focused on transitioning youth and professionals into the workforce through digital platforms and physical recruitment events.

Initially, the Jóvenes en Acción program facilitated over 150,000 three-month paid internships. As these placements concluded, the Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion and the Ministry of Human Development encouraged participants to use the state-run Encuentra Empleo portal to browse public-sector vacancies and upload resumes.

Efforts to connect workers with opportunities have expanded to include large-scale domestic and international recruitment. On August 21, the Ministry of Labor and Human Development held the ‘Encuentra Empleo’ job fair at the Bolivariano Superior University Institute in Guayaquil. Inaugurated by Minister Cynthia Gellibert, the event featured more than 80 companies offering approximately 3,000 vacancies to facilitate access to “formal and dignified employment.”

Beyond job openings, the fair provided training, labor counseling, and free public services. Participants noted that the event allowed for immediate interviews and greater visibility for resumes than traditional digital applications. Despite recent data from the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC) placing national unemployment at 3.1%, the high turnout at the fair indicates a continued demand for employment opportunities.

Simultaneously, a growing number of Ecuadorian professionals are pursuing international roles, specifically within the cruise industry, with thousands registering through agencies to work for global companies.
