Endesa electrical grid investments in Spanish islands

Overview

Endesa has implemented various infrastructure investment projects to strengthen electrical distribution networks across several Spanish islands.

In La Palma and La Gomera, the company invested over 11 million euros over a five-year period to create more resilient and agile power grids. A significant portion of these funds was dedicated to La Palma to reconstruct networks damaged by the 2021 Tajogaite volcanic eruption. These efforts included rebuilding the electrical mesh and installing a double electrical ring to reconnect the north and south of the island, allowing for alternative power supplies and remote restoration.

Expanding its scope, Endesa presented a new investment plan for Menorca for the 2027-2030 period. This plan involves over 15.2 million euros across 112 specific actions in municipalities including Es Mercadal, Maó, Ciutadella, Alaior, and Sant Lluís. The project focuses on upgrading more than 64 kilometers of medium-voltage lines and includes studies to improve network operability and low-voltage networks.

Following frequent summer power outages, Endesa is also addressing stability concerns in the Balearic Islands. In Formentera, the company presented an investment plan exceeding 4.5 million euros to modernize the distribution network through 12 specific actions. These include expanding the Formentera substation, constructing new medium-voltage lines in La Savina, and creating interconnections in areas such as Cala Saona, Sant Ferran, Es Pujols, and Es Ca Marí. Additionally, Endesa is meeting with the Consell of Ibiza and local business associations to resolve similar service interruptions on that island.
