European airline winter schedule adjustments

Overview

European airlines are implementing significant network restructuring for the 2026/27 winter season, characterized by widespread route suspensions and capacity reductions to align with seasonal demand and profitability goals.

Latvian carrier airBaltic is suspending several routes from Lithuania, including Vilnius to Berlin and Dubai, and Palanga to Tenerife, while reducing frequency between Vilnius and Tallinn. A company spokesperson stated these changes are part of a “regular review of the route network based on demand, seasonality, and market conditions” rather than financial difficulties. Lithuanian Airports noted that affected destinations will remain accessible via other carriers, such as Wizz Air and Flydubai, and airBaltic plans to launch a new Vilnius to Geneva route.

Eurowings is revising its winter operations with significant reductions in the former Yugoslavia region. The Lufthansa subsidiary will temporarily pause Stuttgart to Zagreb services between January 11 and February 26, and Stuttgart to Sarajevo flights from late November through early March. Additionally, Cologne to Split services will be paused from late November until late March, and Munich to Pristina services in Kosovo are scheduled for suspension between January 9 and March 20.

Other major carriers are also cutting services. Volotea is removing 32 routes, heavily impacting the French market with cancellations such as Bordeaux to Fuerteventura and various connections between Italian cities and France. easyJet is adjusting its network by suppressing or suspending 73 routes, including the permanent cancellation of Birmingham–Milan Linate and Paris CDG–Catania, alongside temporary suspensions for several Italian destinations. Meanwhile, Ryanair is remodeling its operations at Reggio Calabria’s Tito Minniti airport.
