Extremism and terrorism investigations in Poland

Polish security services have taken legal action against individuals involved in extremist activities and terrorist planning.

In one case, a 20-year-old man was indicted in the Koszalin District Court for allegedly planning a mass terrorist attack using explosives to further the goals of ISIS. The National Prosecutor’s Office stated the suspect sought instructions for manufacturing explosive devices and attempted to recruit others for a terrorist organization.

In a separate development, the Internal Security Agency (ABW) detained two 16-year-old males, Kacper K. and Wiktor Ś., for involvement in neo-Nazi propaganda, racism, and antisemitism. Authorities discovered materials related to mass killings and ‘lone wolf’ shooters on electronic devices, and seized items featuring Third Reich symbolism. Kacper K. was placed in a juvenile shelter for three months, while Wiktor Ś. was sent to a police juvenile detention center.

On September 22, the ABW arrested 17-year-old Paweł G. from Siemianowice Śląskie for allegedly preparing a mass terrorist attack targeting a school and a mosque. He faces charges including participation in an organized criminal group intended to commit terrorist acts, the propagation of Nazi and fascist ideologies, and preparations for mass murder. Investigators found weapons, explosives, and knives at his residence, alongside items containing Nazi and SS symbolism. Evidence suggests the suspect studied the methods of previous mass killers, such as Anders Breivik, to avoid tactical errors. He is linked to extremist groups on Telegram and Discord, including ‘Atomwaffen Polska’ and ‘Bierut Soldier ZNB’. A court has ordered his three-month detention. The ABW is investigating whether external actors or foreign services influenced the radicalization process and is examining connections between Paweł G. and the two previously detained 16-year-olds.
