Far Cry TV series development

In late June 2026 FX announced an anthology television adaptation of Ubisoft’s Far Cry video‑game franchise. The project is being steered by showrunners Noah Hawley and Rob McElhenney, with production handled by FX Productions and Ubisoft Film & Television.

Actress Lizzy Caplan was added to the cast, becoming the first named performer beyond McElhenney. No premiere date or production schedule has been set.

Following Hawley’s earlier comments that video games are poorly suited for drama, Ubisoft developers, including Far Cry 4 director Alex Hutchinson, publicly cautioned that the adaptation must respect the games’ storytelling, adding a note of scrutiny to the series’ development.

In mid‑July 2026, Steve Buscemi was confirmed as part of the cast, joining Rob McElhenney and Lizzy Caplan. The series will continue as an anthology, with each season set in a new location and featuring a new group of characters. Executive producers include Hawley alongside teams from FX Productions, 26 Keys, 3 Arts and Ubisoft Film & Television.

Further details released on 14 July 2026 confirmed Buscemi’s involvement. The show will air on FX and stream on Hulu in the United States, with Disney+ handling international distribution. Filming is expected to start later in 2026, aiming for a late‑2027 or early‑2028 release. Additional executive producers named are Simon Emanuel, Emilia Serrano and Nicholas Frenkel from Ubisoft Film & Television.
