Fashion industry sustainability initiatives

Overview

Major fashion and retail entities have launched separate initiatives aimed at improving environmental sustainability within global supply chains.

In late September 2026, Amazon, Stella McCartney, and Canopy co-founded The Climate Pledge Fashion Coalition. Supported by the World Economic Forum, this group of over 60 signatories aims to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. The coalition focuses on scaling next-generation fibers and manufacturing processes to lower the ‘green premium’ of sustainable materials, helping them reach price parity with traditional fibers.

Shortly thereafter, Levi Strauss & Co., Marks & Spencer, and Schneider Electric established the Fashion Renewable Collaborative (FRC). This initiative targets the textile production stage, which accounts for more than 50% of the apparel industry’s total emissions. The FRC provides suppliers with digital training and resources, such as guidance on power purchase agreements and on-site renewable production, to accelerate the transition to clean energy.
