Fatal car accident involving MP's son in Hyderabad

Overview

On August 16, 26-year-old saleswoman Bharathi Mukhi was killed in Hyderabad after being struck by a speeding Aston Martin DBX707 near Inorbit Mall in the Madhapur area. Mukhi, a native of Odisha who worked at a Lifestyle store, was reportedly crossing the road while returning from lunch with a colleague when the vehicle hit her, causing severe head injuries that led to her death upon arrival at Apollo Hospital.

Police have identified the driver as 21-year-old Lingamaneni Sanjush, the son of Andhra Pradesh Rajya Sabha MP and businessman Lingamaneni Ramesh of the Janasena Party. Cyberabad Police have registered a case against Sanjush under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for causing death by negligence. Investigators have seized the luxury vehicle, and a Motor Vehicle Inspector is currently conducting an examination.

While initial drug and alcohol tests conducted on Sanjush returned negative results, blood samples have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for further analysis. Because the offense carries a maximum sentence of less than seven years, authorities issued a notice to him under Section 35 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita rather than making an immediate arrest.

Following the incident, relatives and friends gathered to protest, alleging police negligence and demanding justice. Lingamaneni Ramesh has stated that his son is “cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.” Authorities are currently awaiting forensic and post-mortem reports to proceed with the investigation.
