Fatal motorcycle and traffic accidents in Greece
Overview
On August 29, 2026, several fatal traffic accidents were reported in Greece. In the Chortiatis area of Thessaloniki, a 20-year-old motorcyclist died following a collision with a car.
In Western Attica, a series of accidents occurred within a few hours, resulting in three deaths. Near midnight on the Old Athens-Corinth National Road in the Megara area, a 35-year-old female motorcyclist lost control of her vehicle and struck a concrete fence.
At approximately 03:40 on NATO Avenue, a 40-year-old driver veered off course and hit a signal post, causing the death of a 72-year-old passenger. Later that morning, a head-on collision between two vehicles on the Elefsina-Thiva provincial road near Mandra resulted in the death of a 77-year-old driver; two other occupants from the second vehicle were hospitalized with minor injuries.
On September 1, a further fatal motorcycle accident occurred in central Athens. Around 01:30, at the intersection of Alexandras Avenue and Armeni Vraila, two motorcycles collided with each other and subsequently crashed into a parked, unoccupied car. The collision resulted in the deaths of a 51-year-old man and two women, aged 27 and an unidentified individual.
Security footage captured the high-impact collision, showing the vehicles being thrown into the air before hitting a parked car. Victims were transported to Erythros Stavros Hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Authorities are investigating whether a red light was disregarded and noted that preliminary reports from the Hellenic Police indicate none of the three individuals were wearing protective helmets.
