On August 19, a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run incident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State. A speeding truck struck the victim while they were attempting to cross the highway near the OPIC area, and the driver fled the scene. On August 21, two separate fatal accidents occurred in Lagos. The first was a head-on collision on the Badagry Expressway near the Mowo Bus Stop involving a Toyota Camry and an Iveco truck. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reported that the crash occurred around 5:16 a.m. and resulted in the deaths of five adult males. Preliminary investigations suggest the accident was caused by over-speeding and reckless driving, which led the Camry driver to veer into the oncoming truck’s lane.
A second incident occurred at Ijesha, inward Mile 2, where a dispatch rider was killed in a collision involving two trucks. LASEMA officials stated that a FAW truck struck an Iveco truck while both drivers were reportedly “struggling for the right of way,” causing the Iveco truck to rear-end the dispatch rider.
On September 16, a collision on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Straight Gate, Ipara Remo, killed four men and injured one person. The accident involved a Mitsubishi Cabstar and a HOWO truck. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) attributed the crash to speeding, improper overtaking, and driver fatigue.
