FIA WRC & ERC rights acquisition – new era

Overview

In late July 2026 the FIA confirmed a 25‑year commercial‑rights agreement for the World Rally Championship and European Rally Championship, transferring the promoter to a consortium of French automotive‑technology platform Cosmobilis and private‑equity firm Park Square Capital. Former Formula 1 team principal Éric Boullier was appointed chief executive officer, with former FIA vice‑president Malcolm Wilson supporting the transition. The FIA described the deal as the biggest commercial transaction in the series’ history and announced a Growth Fund to back rally development, as well as new technical regulations for 2027 aimed at cutting costs, improving safety and boosting competition. The owners reiterated plans to expand the global audience, enhance fan engagement and align the championships with emerging technological and environmental priorities.

The first event under the new management is scheduled for Rally Paraguay later in August 2026, marking the start of the “new era” promised by the consortium. Drivers such as Thierry Neuville welcomed the change, citing hopes that the fresh commercial rights and fan‑focused approach will restore the championship’s prestige.
