Overview

The Formula 1 World Championship calendar for the 2027 season has seen significant developments regarding race locations and scheduling.

Istanbul Park has secured a five-year agreement to host the Turkish Grand Prix from 2027 through 2031. Turkish government ministers and the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation have begun coordinating logistical preparations and promotional activities to meet international standards. The return to Istanbul Park marks the circuit’s re-entry into the official calendar after previously hosting races between 2005 and 2011.

Further expansion for 2027 includes the return of the Portugal Grand Prix at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão, scheduled for June 18–20. This event ends a six-year absence from the calendar. André Gomes, head of Turismo do Algarve, stated the mid-June timing was chosen to precede the peak summer tourist season.

The 2027 season is expected to feature 24 races across five continents and an increase in sprint races from six to ten. Regarding the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the FIA and Formula 1 confirmed the 2027 event will take place from September 24–26. For the preceding 2026 season, the Azerbaijan race will be held on Saturday, September 26, to avoid conflict with the country’s Remembrance Day on September 27. This schedule change necessitates a modified format for the Formula 2 support series, which will feature an expanded program including one free practice session, two qualifying sessions, one sprint race, and two main races.
