Overview

The investigation into the 2017 murder of Francisca Cadenas in Hornachos, Badajoz, has progressed following the discovery of her dismembered remains buried beneath the patio of her neighbors, brothers Julián and Manuel González, in March 2026.

Forensic evidence from the UCO and the Criminalistics Eye Inspection Team has contradicted defense claims of an accidental death, noting that the victim’s wrists were bound with cable ties and she had been gagged. Investigators have suggested a motive of “sexual obsession,” noting the burial site was concealed by planters, washing machines, and gas canisters.

In mid-September 2026, a court-ordered crime reconstruction took place in Hornachos, overseen by the Court of Villafranca de los Barros. The process involved inspecting the residence and mapping suspect itineraries, as well as recording the route taken by Cadenas’s youngest son on the night of her disappearance in May 2017. The brothers, currently held in provisional prison in Morón de la Frontera, face charges of murder and crimes against liberty.

Following the six-hour reconstruction, the victim’s widower, Diego Meneses, stated that the experience was extremely difficult for his family, saying, “We are all worse than ever.” Meneses expressed skepticism toward Manuel González (known as “Lolo”), the only suspect cooperating with authorities, suggesting he is attempting to escape responsibility and questioning if he will “finally tell the truth after nine years.”
