Freddy Peralta performance with Tampa Bay Rays

Overview

Following a trade from the New York Mets to the Tampa Bay Rays, pitcher Freddy Peralta experienced a significant resurgence in performance.

In September, Peralta was named the American League Pitcher of the Month after recording a 4-0 record with a 0.96 ERA across five starts. This improvement was attributed to technical adjustments, including an increased arm angle to approximately 36 degrees and an extended release point of about 6.7 feet, which resulted in a velocity increase of 2-3 mph on all pitches. Scouts also noted a heavier reliance on his changeup compared to previous season averages.

Peralta continued his success into the postseason, earning the American League Championship Series (ALCS) MVP award. He pitched 12 innings of one-run ball over three appearances against the Cleveland Guardians, helping the Rays secure the AL Pennant and a World Series matchup against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Peralta is scheduled to start Game 3 of the World Series on Monday at Tropicana Field. The Rays face a critical situation, trailing the Brewers 0-2 in the best-of-seven series. Peralta, who spent eight seasons with the Brewers organization, has maintained high effectiveness, posting a 1.08 ERA in the postseason and a 0.90 ERA since late August. To counter left-handed pitching in the upcoming matchup against Brewers starter Robert Gasser, Rays manager Kevin Cash has moved Jonathan Aranda and Liam Hicks to the bench in favor of right-handed hitters Ryan Vilade and Nick Fortes.
