Free medical caravans expand across Middle East
Entities: Dr. Mohamed Ghabashi · Dr. Sherif Sobhi · Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghafaar · Dr. Peter Weg · Ministry of Health and Population (Egypt)
Overview
The free‑medical‑caravan initiative that began in late June 2026 in Egypt’s Gharbia governorate and Syria’s Qardaha area has continued to broaden its reach. By mid‑July, Yemen’s Shabwah governorate deployed a Himmm Medical caravan operating from Azan Hospital, serving more than twelve districts with consultations, examinations and medicines, while local officials pledged food, transport, venue support and staff‑training workshops.
A later report from Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population showed that the national mobile‑caravan programme, running from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026, delivered 8.4 million free health services to an estimated 3.4 million people. Nearly 4,800 caravans visited every governorate, averaging 715 patients per caravan per day. Services included examinations, treatments, laboratory tests and health education, with the New Valley, Alexandria and Beheira provinces receiving the highest concentrations. The Egyptian case illustrates how the regional model has scaled to a nationwide public‑health effort, reinforcing the trend of mobile clinics filling gaps in healthcare access throughout the Middle East.
