Fuel price fluctuations in Lithuania and Poland

Overview

Fuel price trends in Lithuania and Poland continue to show a pattern of diverging costs between traditional fuels and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). In Poland, market analysts have forecasted divergent trends for the upcoming week. While gasoline and diesel prices were expected to decrease due to falling wholesale prices, LPG prices were projected to rise.

By mid-October, the Polish Ministry of Energy announced new maximum retail prices as part of the ‘Lower Fuel Prices’ (CPN) program, scheduled to remain in effect until the end of 2026. As of October 20, the Ministry updated these limits, setting 95-octane gasoline at 6.79 PLN per liter, 98-octane at 7.56 PLN, and diesel at 7.97 PLN. These measures are supported by a 60 percent tax on excess profits for fuel companies operating under foreign concessions from March 2026 to March 2027.

Rising fuel costs are significantly impacting consumer behavior and the automotive market in Poland. High gasoline prices have triggered a surge in demand for LPG installations, with some service centers reporting waiting lists of up to three months. Although LPG offers potential savings of up to 50 percent compared to gasoline, the sudden demand has caused supply chain issues for gas tanks and installation kits. Additionally, manufacturers are responding to fuel concerns with hybrid technology, such as the Geely Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid SUV, which aims to balance fuel efficiency with utility.
