Funesp sports infrastructure and program development

Overview

The Municipal Sports Foundation (Funesp) has initiated several measures to enhance sports infrastructure and social programs in Mato Grosso do Sul.

In May, Funesp entered into a partnership with the Mato Grosso do Sul Football Federation (FFMS) via a Term of Authorization of Use. This agreement grants the federation access to the Estádio das Moreninhas, Vila Nasser, and Jacques da Luz stadiums for competitions and events. While FFMS is responsible for maintenance and structural improvements—such as painting stands and installing goalposts—Funesp retains full responsibility for management, inspection, and scheduling. Funesp president Maicon Mommad stated the partnership aims to “strengthen both amateur and professional sport” and “foster youth categories.” The agreement is effective until December 31, 2028.

Following discussions between Funesp and the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), the Football Development Center in Campo Grande has been inaugurated. A legacy of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the facility includes a synthetic grass field, stands, locker rooms, lighting, and climate-controlled areas. CBF President Samir Xaud and Funesp President Maicon Mommad noted the center serves as a “strategic logistical point to support clubs and athlete formation throughout the state.”

Funesp has also expanded its social sports focus through the MovimentaCG Program. Utilizing parliamentary amendments, the foundation has distributed new equipment to service centers across Campo Grande. Funding includes R$ 1 million from Federal Deputy Rodolfo Nogueira, R$ 446,000 from Deputy Luiz Ovando, R$ 240,000 from State Deputy Lidio Lopes, and support from Federal Deputy Dagoberto Nogueira. The program currently operates in 85 locations, offering 19 modalities and serving 9,685 registered students.
