Gaziantep industrial digital and green transformation

Overview

Efforts to modernize the industrial sector in Gaziantep have focused on sustainability and digital integration. Initially, the Southeast Green Women Initiative hosted a Green Transformation Camp to assist 30 women’s cooperatives across nine provinces with energy efficiency, waste management, and digital infrastructure.

Following these initiatives, the Gaziantep Chamber of Industry (GSO) restructured its Industrial Development Hub (EGÜ) to create a more integrated management model. The EGÜ aims to enhance regional competitiveness by overseeing specialized units dedicated to vocational training, carbon footprint reduction, lean production, and digital transformation through entities such as the Gaziantep Model Factory.

Recent developments have strengthened the link between industry and education through a cooperation protocol between the Gaziantep Organized Industrial Zone (OSB) and the Gaziantep Young Businessmen Association (GAGİAD). This agreement focuses on enhancing vocational education at the Private Gaziantep OSB Vocational High School by providing technological infrastructure, internship opportunities, and employment-focused collaboration. Cengiz Şimşek, President of the Gaziantep OSB, characterized vocational training as a “strategic investment for the city and the country.”

On a corporate level, the region’s industrial growth is exemplified by Karpen Plastik. Originally a small carpentry workshop, the company has expanded into a global entity with three factories and 25 production lines, employing 700 people and exporting PVC systems to 25 countries, including markets in Africa and Europe.
