The Emden facility is expected to occupy approximately 40 to 50 hectares of land and provide berths for seven frigates, ten minesweepers, and ten tugboats, potentially employing a four-digit number of military and civilian personnel.

Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and Lower Saxony Prime Minister Olaf Lies are scheduled to meet in Emden on October 5 to discuss the next steps for the new naval base. The expansion continues to face political criticism from the BSW party, which argues that state funds should be directed toward civilian needs like housing and climate protection rather than military infrastructure.
