Giza enforcement drive expands to food safety, land use

In early July, Giza Governor Ahmed Al‑Ansari allocated funds and introduced new waste‑collection infrastructure in Kerdasa, ordering the removal of informal waste piles and urging rapid regularisation of building permits and road‑paving work. Field inspections led to expanded cleaning shifts, coordination with the General Authority for Sanitation and Beautification, and the clearing of illegal parking and construction material.

Two weeks later the governor launched a broader enforcement push focused on citizen complaints posted on social media. Municipal teams cleared illegal structures, removed obstructive cafés, pruned trees and collected waste across South Giza, Al‑Haram and Al‑Murid. Environmental squads, in partnership with the authority, continued field campaigns to locate air‑pollution sources, inspect industrial sites and stop open‑burning of waste, pursuing legal action against offenders. A new 200 mm drinking‑water main was installed on Salahta Biomi Street to curb water‑supply interruptions.

By mid‑July the campaign intensified further. The governor urged even faster waste‑removal, expansion of cleaning shifts and stricter legal follow‑up, reiterating that neglect would trigger corrective measures while maintaining the goal of improving service quality and Giza’s urban appearance.

On 26 July, the governor announced a series of raids targeting public‑health and land‑use violations. Inspectors seized an unlicensed plant in the Kurdassa area that was re‑processing chicken waste into food products, confiscating about 30 tons of material deemed unsafe. A concurrent operation seized a truck loaded with 28,224 unidentified energy‑drink cans and a facility filling propane cylinders with under‑weight contents, leading to legal proceedings. In parallel, authorities dismantled numerous illegal constructions encroaching on agricultural land in the districts of Abu Al‑Nimr, Atfih, Al‑Ayat and Badrashin, handing the cleared sites over to the public prosecutor for further action. The governor emphasized continued coordination among local agencies to promptly address any new spatial violations.
