Glinka State Academic Choir tour in Serbia

Overview

The Glinka State Academic Choir from Saint Petersburg conducted a series of performances in Serbia in September 2026. Under the artistic leadership of conductor Ilya Derbilov, the ensemble performed at the National Theatre in Belgrade and held a sold-out concert at the Svetosavski Dom in Niš, which featured a collaboration with the Niš Church and Choral Ensemble Branko.

The tour included participation in the 60th anniversary of the ‘Mokranjac's Days’ festival in Negotin, alongside additional performances in Novi Sad. During the festival, Derbilov noted that performing there was a “great honor due to its long and rich tradition.” He observed a profound similarity between the Russian musical tradition and the work of Stevan Stojanović Mokranjac, noting that while Mokranjac utilized strict European compositional canons learned in Rome and Vienna, his use of folk material created a strong connection to Russian heritage.
