Industrial efforts to scale green hydrogen production through electrolyzer manufacturing are expanding in Europe and Australia.

In Italy, Ansaldo Green Tech completed a high-volume production line for anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolyzer stacks in Genoa. Supported by Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan and the European IPCEI Hydrogen program, the facility has a capacity exceeding 300 MW per year. The modular technology is designed to work with renewable energy sources to produce pressurized hydrogen.

In Australia, Hysata has advanced its manufacturing and technological integration. The company has launched HysataFab at its Port Kembla headquarters, an 8,500-square-meter facility supported by a $49 million federal government investment. This AI-enhanced site features a 50 MW per annum production line with the capacity to scale up to 200 MW annually. By utilizing artificial intelligence, robotics, and real-time monitoring, the facility aims to increase production output by up to 15%.

Additionally, Hysata has entered an engineering collaboration with InterContinental Energy (ICE) to integrate its capillary-fed electrolyser design into ICE’s modular P2(H2)Node architecture. This architecture is intended to co-locate hydrogen production with wind and solar generation. Hysata’s technology claims a 95% system efficiency, which is approximately 20% higher than current industry standards, achieved by using a capillary to prevent energy-wasting gas bubbles.
