Graeme Dott convicted of child sexual abuse

Overview

Former world snooker champion Graeme Dott has been found guilty of sexually abusing two primary school-aged children following a five-day trial at the High Court in Glasgow. The conviction was handed down on two counts of lewd, indecent, and libidinous behavior.

The court proceedings confirmed the abuse of a girl between 1993 and 1996, and a boy between 2006 and 2010. Testimony from the victims detailed inappropriate touching, sexual acts, and instances where Dott exposed himself. A male victim, now in his late 20s, described abuse occurring during online poker games and while Dott entered a shower while partially or fully undressed.

Dott, 49, had previously denied the charges, describing them as ‘repugnant’. Following the verdict, Dott was remanded in custody. His sentencing is scheduled to take place in Edinburgh on September 29.

In response to the conviction, the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) has revoked Dott’s membership and requested his removal from the World Snooker Tour hall of fame. Detective Inspector Gary Smillie of Police Scotland characterized Dott as a “dangerous individual,” while acknowledging the bravery of the victims.
