In mid‑July 2026 Athens mayor Chari Doukas announced the completion of an urban‑planning study and drafted proposals to develop the core of the Goudi Metropolitan Park. He urged rapid implementation, calling for close cooperation with the neighbouring municipalities of Zografou and Papagou and stressing accountability after the recent Bedford fire. A week later Thessaloniki mayor Stelios Aggeloudis said the municipal council was preparing a legally binding contract to transfer municipal land for a 120‑acre Metropolitan Park at the historic D.E.T.H. site. The agreement guarantees the park’s green space, limits new construction to two exhibition buildings, provides 1,000 underground parking spaces, upgrades the Ioannis Vellidis Conference Centre and includes deed registration, lease termination and amendments to the Special Urban Planning Plan to safeguard the park’s future.

In early August Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis pledged that a new Thessaloniki International Fair venue will be operational by 2030 and reaffirmed the 120‑acre park plan, promising coordinated action between national and municipal authorities to accelerate design competitions and construction.
