Greek Orthodox summer youth camps
Overview
The Holy Metropolis of Samothrace and the Metropolis of Naupakto completed four children’s camp sessions each between late June and July 25, serving more than 350 boys and girls. Metropolitan Eusebios (Samothrace) and Metropolitan Ierotheos (Naupakto) visited the camps, presiding over blessings and participating in health, psychological and arts-sports programmes.
The Orthodox Metropolis of Kastoria concluded its summer camp program under Metropolitan Kallinikos, utilizing the slogan “Keep what you have” (“Κράτει ὃ ἔχεις”). The curriculum focused on spiritual formation and the study of local and newly-canonized saints, as well as historical figures from the Macedonian Struggle.
In the Pieria region, the Holy Metropolis of Kitros, Katerini and Platamon completed its “Camp in the City” program, which ran from July 6 to August 1. Overseen by Metropolitan George and Archimandrite P. Meletios Paraschos, the camp provided dozens of children and teenagers with liturgical services, sports, theater, and traditional dance. The program utilized trained staff and volunteers to support participants ranging from fourth-grade pupils to high-school students.
By late August, the Metropolis of Kithaira, Katerini and Platamon also concluded its annual “Camp in the City” program. For the seventh consecutive year, approximately 280 young people participated in the week-long event. During the conclusion, Metropolitan George emphasized the necessity of religious education and encouraged the youth to engage in upcoming Catechetical Assemblies for the new ecclesiastical year.
Together, these snapshots show a coordinated, nationwide effort by multiple Greek Orthodox metropolises to provide summer youth camps that blend spiritual formation, recreation and community building.
