Honda and Suzuki automotive market trends

In early September 2026, automotive and motorcycle market data highlighted varying performance trends for manufacturers in Vietnam and the United States.

In the United States, Honda reported record-breaking hybrid vehicle sales for July, totaling 36,609 units. This growth was driven by high fuel prices and demand for fuel-efficient models. The CR-V Hybrid was a primary contributor, accounting for 54% of total CR-V sales with 20,710 units sold, marking an 18.4% year-over-year increase. The Accord Hybrid also saw a 28.7% increase, while the Civic recorded its best July performance since 2021.

Globally, Honda’s motorcycle division showed a strong recovery, with sales reaching over 12.6 million units in July, an 8.8% increase year-over-year. In Southeast Asia, Vietnam acted as a key growth driver with a 5.3% increase in motorcycle sales, outperforming Indonesia (3.8% growth) and Thailand, which saw a 0.2% decline.

However, Honda Vietnam reported divergent results for August. While motorcycle sales grew 7.8% year-on-year to 166,721 units, this represented a 7.2% decrease from July. Simultaneously, automobile sales in Vietnam experienced a sharp decline, dropping to 1,001 units—a 56% decrease compared to the same period last year and a 53% decline from July. Experts attributed the slump in car sales to high market supply, intense competition from new brands, and seasonal factors related to the seventh lunar month. To counter this, Honda has utilized promotions and registration fee support for models including the City, BR-V, and HR-V.

In Vietnam, Suzuki also released updated September pricing for models such as the XL7 Hybrid and Jimny.
