Honda e-MTB market entry

Overview

Honda has announced its entry into the electric mountain bike (e-MTB) market with the unveiling of the Honda e-MTB Prototype at Sea Otter Europe in Girona. Developed in collaboration with German manufacturer Rotwild, the prototype features a high-end carbon fiber frame and a Shimano EP8 motor. The design is intended as a tribute to the brand’s RN01 downhill bike from the early 2000s.

While the prototype currently utilizes Shimano components and a semi-integrated Fox suspension system, Honda indicated that the final production version may utilize proprietary battery technology or different drive systems. The company aims to launch its first commercial e-MTB model by 2027.

Recent updates indicate the project is being developed in collaboration with trial rider Toni Bou. The goal of the project is to create a product that “blends motorcycle sensations with off-road cycling,” though specific technical details regarding battery capacity, weight, and exact power output remain undisclosed.
